The road to full recovery from critical illness even after discharge from the hospital can be challenging. Many survivors of critical illness may face a long and difficult recovery period due to a variety of problems including nightmares, anxiety, and post traumatic stress disorder.
The critical care psychology subgroup are psychologists from various units that provide and coordinate the delivery of high-quality psychologist services and post discharge care to patients who have recovered and have been discharged from critical care units.
These expert services may include support for psychological complications from being in critical care furthermore, provide resources to help ex-patients optimally settle into the community and workplace.
The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Adult Critical Care Psychologists produced a helpful resource booklet on rehabilitation and discharge from critical care. This was printed off from Network funding and distributed to all 19 critical care units. Units will now self-fund printed copies with feedback highlighting the booklet’s value for patients and families transitioning from ICU Care.
