ACCP Group

Advanced critical care practitioners are clinical professionals that are a part of the multi-disciplinary team that provide timely and effective clinical care to patients in the Intensive care unit. They are highly skilled and experienced practitioners from backgrounds such as Nursing, Physiotherapy, Paramedics or other related health care professionals. ACCPs deliver an enhanced level of care in addition to performing diagnostic and therapeutic critical care procedures within an intensive care setting. Furthermore, they provide education to other members of staff, patients and their relatives.

To become an ACCP, the role holder must complete a post graduate diploma or Master’s degree with a Higher education Institution (FICM accredited). This training provides ACCPs with exposure to the knowledge, skills and competencies required to practice at an advanced skill level in the Intensive care.

The aim of the ACCP subgroup is to provide a voice for ACCPs to formally celebrate, promote, celebrate, support, develop and share best practices among ACCPs working in units within the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Adult Critical care Operational Delivery Network.

The aims of the ACCP subgroup are:

  • The group will meet formally once every month/bimonthly to discuss on service provision for ACCPs in various units under the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Adult Critical Care Operational Delivery Network

  • The group will act as an initial reference point and source of advisory expertise to collaboratively inform NHS England initiatives and programme, furthermore providing advice and insight around delivery of care by ACCPs

  • The group will share expertise, knowledge, insight and discuss best practices to enable standards to be effectively developed and implemented in critical care areas. This will help ensure that ACCP services provided in the Network are reflective of the needs and view of the people who use them.

  • The group will discuss educational opportunities to members to support them in their ongoing professional development

  • The group will represent the views of ACCPs working in Adult Critical Care areas in units under the Network
