KSS Adult Critical Care Rehabilitation and Follow Up Conference 2026: A Day of Learning, Reflection and Inspiration
On 21 September 2026, the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Adult Critical Care Operational Delivery Network welcomed delegates from across the region to the KSS Adult Critical Care Rehabilitation & Follow-Up Conference 2026, held under the theme:
"Closing the Gap: Delivering NCEPOD Guidance Across the Recovery Journey"
The conference brought together a wide range of healthcare professionals, patient representatives, and industry partners to explore how we can continue to improve rehabilitation and follow-up services for patients recovering from critical illness. Throughout the day, delegates heard from expert speakers covering topics including ICU recovery pathways, person-centred rehabilitation, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, medicines optimisation, psychological support, innovative rehabilitation technologies, and the use of patient-reported outcomes to improve services.
One of the highlights of the conference was the powerful lived experience session delivered by Poppy and Mum, who shared their personal rehabilitation journey following critical illness. Their reflections provided a moving reminder of the lasting impact critical illness can have on patients and families, and reinforced the importance of compassionate, person-centred care throughout the recovery pathway.
The event also provided valuable opportunities for networking, multidisciplinary learning, poster presentations, and engagement with sponsors who continue to support rehabilitation and follow-up initiatives across the region. Delegates participated in parallel workshops focused on swallowing and communication rehabilitation, complex recovery, multidisciplinary team approaches, and the evolving role of healthcare professionals in supporting recovery after critical illness.
